Awesome Sloth's Awesome Songs, Vol. 7: Lights Out & More

UK unit UFO remains one of the most underrated acts of the 1970s, inspiring some of the best bands of later generations (Iron Maiden most outspoken among them), but never quite getting the credit they were due.  Between Michael "My Brother Has An Awesome Moustache" Schenker's brilliant guitar skills and Phil Mogg's blustery streetwise voice, the band had all the right ingredients, but never quite seemed to break through as grandly as some of their contemporaries.  This titular track from 1977's Lights Out is arguably the band's most metallic moment, and it's an absolute killer.

And as a bonus, here's UFO's cover of one of the Sloth's all-time favorite tunes, Love's 1967 psychedelic classic "Alone Again Or," which is solid but admittedly pales next to the original.  Because the Sloth loves you, he has also added the original Love version below that, and because the Sloth likes to confuse you, he's even added the version released by UK punks-gone-goth The Damned in the mid-1980s.

The Awesome Sloth says, "Only UFO can rock me, rock me...  Well, not only them, but they do a damn fine job."

Because the Sloth and SlayerM share the Love for "Alone Again Or" as one of the all-time favorite tunes, this is a 5 star post.

I had no idea that song had two (if not more?) covers. Both of these rock.

Thank you Awesome Sloth for being Awesome.
