I think this was one of the best shows I've been to in a while. I really don't know what to say here, except that I really hope you get to see Enslaved play live.
Two bands played this show besides Enslaved: Krakow and Audrey Horne. We came a little late (we were traveling to another country after all) so I didn't get to see the entire Krakow performance, but this band has potential. They're your pretty-much average stoner band but they do glisten at moments. Nothing spectacular, but that may be due to the fact there was practically no one in the audience, so maybe the guys didn't have some grand motivation to set the place on fire. Still, worth checking out their myspace if you're a stoner rock fan (link in the name).
Audrey Porne: whatever. Ice Dale, what are you doing in that band? Boring, uninspirational. I went for a beer while they were playing.
Needles to say, everyone was real anxious to see Enslaved play. After Audrey Porne was done, the crowd slowly began to pour in the main stage area (which is tiny, btw) and you could feel the buzz in the air... Then they started playing...and the rest is history. Man, what a show! The last time I saw Enslaved play was a couple of years ago and it was
nowhere near this good plus it's obvious that there's an increased number of fans devoted
to this band.
They were really in the mood to kill those fans of theirs with their playing that night (in a totally good way). They played a lot of stuff of off Vertebrae, naturally, and a bunch of older stuff which made the crowd go completely berzerk. They were just at their best. Each of the band members showed how much he can kick ass with his talent and since they got an awesome response from the audience, that just fueled them more. And thank God the sound was great! You could hear everything very clearly, the vocals weren't a blur and the guitars weren't one big mess of riffs, so kudos to the sound guys at the club. So, there. I loved every minute of it. So much energy came out of this band and they proved they deserve to have such a status in the metal scene.
We managed to get a pretty good spot for taking pics and shooting videos so here's one for you guys. The best one we made that night.
They were mingling after the show, so I also got the chance to talk to Grutle some and take a pic. As one would say in these neck of the woods: "He's good people".
