Yeah, I'd say minute-for-minute that's the best thing they've ever put out. So incredibly intense.
I have an appreciation for the band's style, but I wouldn't necessarily consider myself to be a fan.My exposure to the band includes 4 or 5 of their discs, but I only revisit Destroy Erase Improve and Contradictions Collapse. However I will definitely have to give some of their other discs a re-spin based on everyone's appreciation for those works.
Love everything this band has done.
I feel like this one of the few bands that actually push themselves to do new things with each release.
Chaosphere is king.
fin.

Both of these things are true.
I just bought Catch Thirty-Three, and, I must say, I like it much better than their older material.
i have never put on a meshuggah album and turned it off before it was over.
i probably picked the wrong album to start w/ but nothing was so boring i never will revisit the band, regardless of their popularity. to me they are in the same category as Neurosis
i know meshuggah have loads of talent i just never really got into them, havent heard obzen yet but have heard good things. i intend to pick it up and give them another day in court

there are so many things wrong in this statement......
it bums me out, ha.
I first heard them with the track 'The Mouth Licking What You've Bled' on a Terrorizer cover CD and immediately bought Chaosphere, which is still one of my favourite albums ever. I really appreciate it when a band wields technicality into engaging riffs and keeps it up all the way through a song, so I also love DEI and the None EP. I think the first album is pretty good too, but Nothing was a disappointment to me. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, I just found the riffs and songs uninteresting.

I wouldn't necessarily say it was the wrong album to start with, but people generally feel that Chaosphere and Destroy Erase Improve were stronger efforts. Also, if even that isn't your thing, you could check out Contradictions Collapse. Their old stuff is downright thrashy, the guitar tone almost makes them sound like old school Metallica.
One of my favorite bands-definetly depends on my mood thought; it takes alot out of me to listen to Meshuggah, for me they are one of those bands which I have to be in the right mood to fully appreciate.
Got to say that DEI and Catch 33 are my favorites(if we aint counting "I"). Both offer the two extremes of Meshuggah. DEI for me even with Obzen out still remains their most accessible release, while Catch 33 provides something different at least for me with every listen.
I have to say I'm pretty suprised with some "critics", honestly all the hate I have read regarding Meshuggah is such a hyperbolic reaction. I guess it's understandable you either like them or you don't - not many people remain on the sidelines on this subject.
Anyhow the new video for "Bleed" was pretty good, I wonder if it will be shown soon on the TV since youtube's quality doesnt do it justice.
Is it me or does ObZen have the most crushing Guitar tones and drum mix on an album production?

Guitars sound okay, but I'm not crazy about the drumsound. I wish they'd just use the natural drum tones instead of reverting to the DFH samples. Tomas plays like a motherfucker though and makes up for it.
